It's almost time for the annual office holiday party, which means I need to prep for my annual offering: Plate O' Meat.

I've noticed that these potlucks are chock full of sweets and carbs. Despite all the vegetarians in this group, my meat goes like hotcakes.

Where can I get some good, ready-to-eat sausages? Salami, pepperoni, that sort of jazz. Some unusual ones would be nice to throw in.

And maybe something special and pricey from Eataly!

PQM always has some interesting stuff and good salamis.

Butcher and Larder doesn't always have cold encased meat but they always have pates and rilletes.

When I'm making a sausage plate I head to any of the Polish delis along Milwaukee, like Andy's, Kurowski's, etc. They have a huge variety of smoked sausages, all ready to slice and eat. Really tasty mustards and relishes too, and don't forget to get some dill pickles out of the big barrel. They have a decent cheese selection too, at low prices you won't find in a fancier store. Get some canned sardines, herring, and sprats to round out your platter if your co workers are into that (I am).

    What Steve said.

[I'm referring to the Touhy location. Haven't been to the Golf Rd. one yet.]

The breadth of their selection is pretty amazing. It's a multi-ethnic selection, which will give you lots of choices.

There's a lot of interesting stuff going on in the world of Russian salami. I had once once that was smoked over pine or spruce or something. Not a heavy flavor, but a little different from the usual.

I can't even go thru a list in my head of all the different stuff there. Just go.

There will be lots of smoked fish items, as well. And if you want to add something different in the veg department, there's a cold case with Russian type pickles . . . like new pickles, green tomato pickles, other stuff I know nothing about but bet would be good with sausages.

Kurowski's for sure- (Try the Kabonoski's cut up w/ some Smoked Gouda- buy in a chunk!) they sell a nice Hungarian Salami as well.)

In Cicero-the amazing Freddy's has not only housemade Soprasetta + the amazing Pepperoni Bread and some great house made pickles.

    High-er-End- Publican Meats on Fulton.

And- yes to Fresh Farms- the new one's (on Golf Road) Deli selection will blow your mind! although plenty to pick from on
    The Touhy Avenue store-too.

and- in Chicago- Pete's Fresh Market sell nice Soprasetta;s + Salami's

I actually think the sausage selection on Touhy is much larger than Golf Road, but I only went to Golf once around a week after they opened, so it's possible things have changed since then, although the deli case itself is twice as big on Touhy.

Schaefer's on Gross Point in Skokie. Also Fresh Farms or Tony's Finer Foods. And if you have a bit more time, then you can order direct from La Espanola Meats:

Try Usinger's "landjaeger cervelat". Pretty available in Chicagoland, but still a tad bit unusual.

Oh, good idea Roger Ramjet! I used to be a big fan of that when I lived in Whitewater and could find it regularly. Ummm. Lovely flavour and texture. Do it!
