I asked at the Venezolano place Bienmesabe on Montrose a while back regarding hallacas and they said check back at Xmas. Worth a shot.

When I was there in mid-November, this dish was on the menu . . .

La Cocinita in Evanston has hallacas as a seasonal item. They tweeted that customers should call or email for details.

No, so sorry. It's the la Cocinita in Evanston you referred to in your post. I've corrected my post.

We had this special tonight for dinner. I have not had a hallaca before, but enjoyed it. The Masa seemed very finely grained and smooth with a tasty meat filling. The Pan de Jamon was interesting with sweet bread spiked with the salty taste of ham and olives. The chicken salad was forgettable. I don't know if you can order the hallaca without the full special, but if you can, that might be the way to go.

Plan on a wait as they are making the hallacas to order and want to make sure the Masa is cooked through.
