Hi- The strainer that I have had for years, has developed a hole in the mesh, and so I need a new one. I use it to rinse off blueberries, cherries, cherry tomatoes, and to drain Bulgar when I make tabbouleh salad primarily, but also for a few other tasks. I would prefer something that is going to last for a few years. ATK recommends Rosle, which is $49, but they do not list their other recommendations in their magazine. They tell you to go online and see their reviews of the other 5 strainers they have tested. I do not have a subscription to the magazine, and so it is not letting me see the results unless I sign up for a 14 day free trial. I tried doing that but they ask for credit card information, so they can charge you if you do not opt out during the 14 day trial. I do not like that option. Are there any other 8 inch fine mesh strainers that people would recommend? It can be larger too. I did see an Oxo one at Bed Bath and Beyond that looked like it would hold up for $20 I found out on Amazon by looking at the reviews though that ATK does not like that one because it does not hold up long term. Any other ones people would recommend? Thanks, Nancy

Does anybody know if there are any public libraries where I can look up ATK's reviews without subscribing to the magazine? I want to look at the reviews for the strainer that they did back in March, but in order to look at them, I have to give them my credit card info, and if I don't cancel the two week free trial, I get charged $34 a year. I know there are some public libraries where you can look up Consumer Report's reviews. Thanks, Nancy

I don't know about libraries, but you might want to check out other review sources:

Thanks to the person that PM me the rating for strainers on CI. I ended up getting the strainer which they highly recommended, which is the Rosle 7.9" strainer. It was a little more expensive than what I wanted to spend. It is $49.95 everywhere. I ended up getting it at Bed Bath and Beyond, and I used a $10 0ff $30 coupon. I had to order it online, but I got free shipping. I just got it today, and I love it. It is way heavier than the one I am throwing out, and it should last me forever. It is very heavy duty. It was also packaged extremely well when it was shipped.

I also just got an Oxo Good Grips 12 cup muffin pan from Amazon, which ATK also highly recommended, and I also love it too. The pan is nice and heavy. I also ordered the Nutritious Delicious cookbook that ATK just put out too, because Amazon had a $5 off $20 on books. When I opened up my package from Amazon a few minutes ago, the paperback book was not lying flat in the box, and a few of the pages were bent, and so they could have done a better job of packaging it. Thanks, Nancy

One thing that is nice about the Oxo Good Grips nonstick muffin pan that I just purchased on Amazon, is that it is made in the USA. It seems like the great majority of the kitchen items you purchase on Amazon are made in China. The strainer I just got is.

Last year at Christmas time there was a documentary on PBS that told the story of a family that was trying to avoid buying anything made in China. They needed new lights for their Christmas tree, and all the Christmas lights are made in China, and so they decided they could skip the lights. Hope this helps, Nancy

Make sure you get a strainer that is stainless steel. I've had a few one smaller one bigger for years. They have them on Amazon where you can read reviews.

Hi- I already got my strainer shipped from Bed Bath and Beyond three weeks ago. It is 100% stainless steel, and is way heavier than the one that I had for probably 20 years, which had a wooden handle, and developed a hole in it. I got the 7.9" strainer from Rosle, which is a German company. Unfortunately it is made in China, but it is still wonderful. There are a few high quality things made in China. It got fantastic reviews on Amazon, and it was highly recommended by ATK. Even with the $10 off coupon, it still cost me $40, which is more than I wanted to spend, but it should last me forever. The strainer they previously recommended was only $30, but it is no longer being made. Thanks, Nancy
