Help! Searching for a cheese pumpkin or similar

Hi all,

I am calling on the knowledge of LTHForum.
I have been to 6 different grocery store chains in the Elk Grove, Schaumburg, and Itasca areas over the last week and I cannot find a Long Island Cheese Pumpkin, or something similar, for my Thanksgiving side dish. As a matter of fact, none of the stores I went to had any pumpkins in stock, which is shocking since it's pumpkin pie baking time! I've tried Whole Foods, Trader Joes, Valli Produce, two different Jewels, Marianos (albeit early last week), Aldi's, and Walmart.

Does anyone know where to find one in the NW or West Suburbs? I thought about local farms with stands, but they are also closed for the season.

I saw Pumpkins today at Stanley's produce. I did not pay attention as to the type. If you do not need a whole pumpkin perhaps you can find cubed/frozen at Whole Foods or Trader Joe's.

Hi- The problem is that a lot of commercial pumpkin pie is made using squash. It in general makes a better pie The great majority of the pumpkins are grown for Halloween or for the canned pumpkin market. You might try a produce place such as Pete's or Caputo's. If you can find a winter farmer's market, you might be able to find it too.

I took a look at the recipe, and it looks like the pumpkin is used as a bowl, and so frozen would not work out. A month ago you could have found it at one of the farmer's markets.

I suppose it's too late now, but the Mariano's near me (Webster and Ashland in Chicago) still had pumpkins in various sizes last weekend. I've never heard of a Long Island Cheese Pumpkin - sounds interesting.
