Many years ago I had some awesome oven mitts that I received as a gift. They were from Pampered Chef. A natural, off white color cotton and seemed to be lined with a heat related material. After many years and lots of washes, they finally died. I may have even gotten a second pair.

Since then I've had a few quilted cotton pairs (Williams-Sonoma and Sur La Table), but they are not insulating enough. Have had a few different pairs of silicone mitts, but I don't have the control of a fabric mitt. We roast vegetables a lot in very hot, large, heavy cast iron pans and remove the pans several times to stir. I wind up almost getting burned or not feeling like I have a good grip.

Has anyone found any mitts they are happy with? My wife just returned a pair to Sur La Table that were melting in spots.

I'm know you will think I am crazy, and they don't have style points, but I love the Ove Glove. Most functional item I have found for its purpose.

We have a version of these, OXO brand that are thick insulated fabric with silicone grip detailing - sturdy and good, without the slippery problem of the total silicone mitt you mention. I think Kitchen Aid also makes a comparable one I've seen at Bed Bath and Beyond.

I don't know the science behind it, but the oven mitts I have that have a terry cloth exterior last a very long time and are always great for handling hot dishes -- EXCEPT when they get wet and transmit the heat right to your hands.

    Hi,

I bought new oven mitts last year. They shrank on the first outing. I still use them, but I line dry them all now.

Did you ever look on e-Bay to see if someone is selling what you once liked?

A couple years ago I purchased a pair of HellFire BBQ & Ove Gloves from Amazon for $20.00. I just checked Amazon and they want $60.00. While they are large I use them almost daily to pull a 8 qt cast iron dutch oven for baking bread, they have never failed me and have become my every day hot pad.

Amazon has other varieties similar to this but I have no experience with them. At current price would probably risk it an try a similar item.
