where would you shop for large quantities of fresh herbs? we need rosemary sprigs for cocktails for a large party, and basil and dill for the food, so those million dollar tiny boxes aren't going to cut it. thanks!!

Jerry's comes to mind, though I'd check first. One caveat, Jerry's parking lot makes Joong Boo Kimball seem like a church parking lot on Tuesday and the clientele will smack you around in quest for the last bunch of carrots. Restaurant Depot if you have a card or friend with a card.

Caputo's usually has herbs in larger quantities.

Fresh Farms for sure. Probably HarvesTime, Devon Market or any of the smaller markets. At farmer's markets, doesn't Smits Farms sell bulk herbs?

If you call Smits, I’d bet that they’d put something together for you to pick up at your closest market location. Very nice people and they have beautiful, reasonably-priced flowering dill—that’s where I always get mine for pickling. I’m sure they’d have the basil as well. Not sure about Rosemary, but that’s usually pretty cheap and plentiful, even at Whole Foods.

Fresh Farms falls flat (nice alliteration) when it comes to herbs. They generally have an anemic collection of the little plastic packs. I have a substantial growth of rosemary from one of those gallon-size planters that Costco sells at the beginning of the season. Probably 30 very big sprigs. Not sure if anyone's still selling those. Maybe Home Depot?

I don't know about rosemary, but I've had luck getting a lot of basil and dill cheaply at the local farmers' market within the last half hour of closing.

RE: Fresh Farms - I was thinking mostly of the dill because I've bought it there. Wasn't sure about the basil and rosemary.

    Hi,

Right around this time of year, Sunset Foods sells huge bouquets of basil for less than $5.

I believe their basil source is Didier Farms in Buffalo Grove.

Jerry's is great for the dill you wish for. They sell basil, rosemary and such in 99 cent packages.

That reminds me, you could also go right to the source and maybe get a better price:

You can also get potted basil, dill, and rosemary plants, among many others, at Didier Farms.
