    Hi,

Last night after a late dinner, someone wanted ice cream. A trip to the freezer, the collector comments does the light not work in the freezer? Did not add the interesting detail of liquid on the floor.

I jumped up to visit the freezer. To find it defrosting for no apparent reason, beyond the freezer not working. I took a lamp over to test the sockets, they were working.

It's Saturday night after 8 PM. I visited the thread on dry ice to collect a range of costs, then hit the road. I bought 42 pounds of dry ice, which I placed in the trunk. I do have the air conditioning blasting in the car, but didn't want to risk suffocating.

Per information found on the internet, I made a priority of packing the shelves with dry ice from top to near bottom. What was a drippy mess is frozen solid this morning.

We are now going to fully defrost, then hope it turns on. If it does not, I have already investigated getting a replacement freezer. Whatever happens, I will get an alarm to avoid this in the future.

If somebody had not asked for ice cream after dinner, I think we'd be looking at bigger problem. This freezer is in the basement, so it is visited maybe once or twice a week at most.

    Regards,

If you had a puddle on the floor, and nothing in the freezer was thawed beyond a tipping point, consider yourself lucky.

Inadvertent left open freezer door is a stomach sinking feeling in my book. I think twice in 10 years so far it's happened. Totally sucks, especially when you are stocked for the upcoming season. I think at one point this spring, I had 25 slabs of baby backs in mine. Probably down to single digits now.

    Fingers crossed for you.
We're definitely getting an alarm on the next one.

    Hi,

The worst case I ever heard was a friend whose plumber forgot to reconnect the freezer after fixing the sump pump.

It was not discovered until there was a really bad smell coming from the basement a few weeks later. When she opened up the freezer, there was nothing to rescue. She had cooked ahead for the high holidays, which now meant nothing.

While cleaning up this mess, her sheepdog ate some of the rotten food. When it came back to haunt them, it was coming out of both ends. She tried to keep her sick dog in the yard until it was finished, then took the dog to the groomer.

I heard about this after it happened. It was difficult to remain horrified when her recounting of this adventure was so humorously laid out.

    HI,

We defrosted the freezer. We did a test sample and it froze.

Now to pack the freezer once more and take inventory.

On the to-do list: buy a freeze alarm.
