Hi- I am also a member of mashupmom's Facebook group, and she just asked everyone where they bought their spices. Somebody there said they were looking for places to buy Cavender's Greek Seasoning and Lawry's seasoned pepper. This person buys a lot of their spices at CVS because their spices are only $.99. They said that the only store they have seen Lawry's at is Jewel, and they charge a ton of money for a little jar, and so they have been buying it online.

Has anybody here tried Cavender's? How is it? I am sure that the Spice House has a wonderful Greek seasoning blend but it probably costs more than this person is willing to spend.

I went to about 6 store around December looking for Cavender's on a recommendation with no luck. Mariano's, Valli, Oakton Market, Village Market, that produce place across from Uncommon Ground on Devon, a couple others. It's one of those packages you would see all the time until you are looking for it. You can find it online.

I’m at Pete’s Market on 43rd and Pulaski right now, and they have it for $1.69 for a 3.5 oz container, and $3.89 for an 8 oz bottle. Aisle 4, sixth shelf from the top under the McCormick spices, and ninth from the top for the smaller size.

    Hi,

For a number of known seasonings, there are copycat recipes:

    Cavender's Greek seasoning

    Lawry's seasoned salt

    seasoned peppers

I have made the Lawry's seasoned salt in a pinch. I had some left in a jar to compare, it was pretty much the same.

    Regards,

With the copycat Cavender's recipe, a big important ingredient is missing (which, depending on your viewpoint, may be good or bad): MSG. (It's between garlic and oregano in the ingredients list on the Cavender's bottle.) But, yeah, one taste of the stuff and you can tell it's got that umami kick, so if you want to replicate the flavor close enough to be a copycat, you gotta throw a good bit of it in.

You're right about msg. I started to comment, then backed off, but msg is usually removed and should be put back in.
