Does anyone know of a grocery store or market that sells fresh Yuca? If not, how about frozen yuca, which I could commonly find in most groceries when living in Florida?

Just returned from Puerto Rico and it awakened my love for this great root veg.

    Thanks!

Yuca's all over the place. Most Mexican and Puerto Rican groceries have it, as do African stores up north. Westbrook Market in Westmont has it. But to be completely honest, fresh yuca is pretty hard to deal with, and it is often skunked. Powdery insides from poor handling is common. Good, clean, ready to cook frozen yuca, mostly grown in Costa Rica, is in many Latino grocery sections. The natural place to start looking for fresh or frozen is La Unica, the Cuban/South American superstore on Devon.

Do yourself a favor and cook the yuca in a pressure cooker, then fry it up in some lard with mojo criollo and onions.

Yep, it's everywhere, fresh and frozen.

jclifton, since your profile says "south loop", I'm guessing that your closest option is going to be Cermak Produce on Cermak, west of Damen.

Honestly, I've actually never seen frozen yuca, just the fresh stuff. As to where I get it, the Pete's Fresh Market by my house (on 44th and Pulaski) has it, along with all the Mexican groceries in my neighborhood.

You can also find it sold as cassava or manioc. Incidentally, the starch from this root is used to make tapioca.
