Does anyone know where I can buy Amedei locally? I'm hesitant to buy it online because of shipping issues and cost. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Chalet Wine and Cheese (40 E Delaware) has Amedei chocolate. They have the basic Amedei chocolate bars but more importantly, they have Porcelana and Chuao!

I love dark chocolate but I've yet to commit myself to one brand that I really love. Maybe I should have myself a taste test party.... But, I had heard good things about Amedei chocolate. Before I go off and do something crazy like order it off the internet, which seems to be pretty expensive, has anyone had Amedei chocolate, and if so what are your thoughts? Also, can you purchase it from shops in Chicago? Or, I would be happy to get other suggestions for good dark chocolate brands!

    Thanks!

We shop at a small chocolate shop in Winnetka from time to time that sells a variety of chocolate bars along with a variety of pistoles (sp?). What we like about this place -- The Chocolate Box -- is that they do heavy sampling. They always have a varity of dark chocolates to try, carry a lot of the brand names (Valrhona, Weiss, etc.) but also have more obscure brands. All very good. They have very nice truffles as well. It's not close to us -- Winnetka -- but we always find something new and interesting.

chalet and hannah's bretzel were the only two places in chicago (excluding the burbs) that carried amedei. i say "were" because chalet closed about a year ago and hannah's no longer has it. :(

hannah's bretzel (180 w washington) is the best place to buy dark chocolate. just don't get caught up in the organic chocolate hype.

as for brands: venchi and michel cluizel are tops. newtree is good. vosges is overrated and overpriced.

An Intelligentsia buyer told me that she was going to stock it. It's worth the call to check.

    Brands:

Valrhona (Manjari and Le Noir - check Trader Joe's)
    Pralus (100%)
    De Vries (Trinitario)

    Check out chocosphere.com - good chocolate e-tailer
and seventypercent.com for reviews of high-end bars
