Years ago when I first moved to the area (1978) there was a Gold Standard liquor store in the space fronting B'way (in front of Dominick's) that is now occupied by the bank. Shortly afterwards Gold Standard moved over to the "Chalet" on Clark (where it still now resides as Binny's)...
Also just across the way from Dominick's was Pepe's, a little Mexican joint a few steps down from the street. It was just about the only place on that stretch where you could get Mexican food...
There was a Chinese place on the NE corner of B'way & Wellington (now a bike shop)...
For a quick bite we'd go to the Golden Nugget on the SW corner of B'way & Belmont (now a bank) or to Ricky's across the way. The neighborhood grocery was Evergreen (space now occupied by a Walgreen's). In that day and age there was still a kosher butcher on the east side of the 3300 block of Broadway...
For Sunday brunch we'd go to the Brewery on the SW corner of B'way & Briar (now an optical shop)...it was very chic, we felt like we were in New York
