Salsa Huichol, a complex cascabel-based sauce from Nayarit, is a favorite of mine too. I don’t think it’s that hard to find but every time I went looking for it I came up empty. A couple months ago I found it at Fisherman’s Choice, a nice little fish market with a lunch counter in front. It’s a bargain at $0.99 for a 6.5 ounce bottle. Be sure to visit La Fruiteria, across the street.

thanks Rene, I'm always on the lookout for sources of the stuff, like you it always seemed to me that it shouldn't be that hard to find but instead I've had to resort to buying bottles from the clark st islas marias.

I bought a bottle of salsa huichol directly from the genial Senora Romero at Tacos del Pacifico. I enjoy it on eggs, in chicken soup, just on chips. It provides a very clean, hot burn that comes and goes rather quickly, which I like. I like the color, too.

Found Salsa Huichol at the Berwyn Fruit Market, 3811 S. Harlem in Berwyn.

6.5 oz bottle, "from the Nayar Mountains", $1.59, I think.

I happened upon it in Albany Park this weekend at the Middle Eastern grocery/convenience store on the east side of Kedzie, across the street from the (now-closed) L station. I regret not having further details, but I was with an out-of-town guest and not in a position to take notes. An unexpected but welcome find!
