As much as I enjoy the ever growing recipe book collection, sometimes looking for a recipe on line is quicker and more fun. So, I present to you my recipe bookmarks, hoping that if I share, you will, too.

    *****

    http://www.recipesource.com/

Old school and probably my favorite. Successor to "Searchable Online Archive of Recipes", a database that has its roots in Usenet groups and UC Berkeley students. My hippie heart loves this kinda stuff. Plus it's a really big database. On the downside, you often get repetitions of the same recipe and some dogs that involve opening 7 cans of something. Then again, some days you want food that makes you nostalgic for your other grandmother's [not the Sicilian grandmother who was a good cook] food.

    *****

    http://www.epicurious.com/

Gourmet Magazine. Bon Appetit. Sheila Lukens. Big recipe base from these sources [among others... I tend to breeze right past the "Self" Magazine recipes]. My other favorite and more reliable and sophisticated than RecipeSource in ways. Has reviews from users that are sometimes useful, and sometimes make you ask why some people are allowed in a kitchen.

    http://www.marthastewart.com
    http://www.foodtv.com/
    http://www.bhg.com/bhg/food/index.jhtml

Sites from big [or medium] media presences, that often have good recipes or ideas available. My buddy Aunt Jean swears by Food Network's site. I say "eh" more often than not. Uncomfortable as Martha can make me, she frequently has good recipes. Better Homes & Gardens is my "go to" recommendation for people who want to cook "American", but the web site is a little difficult to navigate and the quantity of pop up ads kills. Still, useful for certain things. Jello, anyone?

Want help trying to make it the way MawMaw, mommaleh, or Grandma Jenny did? This site may help. For those of us who still can't sort out that whole food/love thing.

    *****

    http://www.ellenskitchen.com/

And speaking of old hippies.... lots of veggie stuff and "home remedy" type things.

    http://allrecipes.com
    http://www.recipezaar.com/
    http://www.cooks.com/
    http://www.recipelink.com/
    http://recipecircus.com/search.html

Sites I've stumbled across mostly thru Googling recipe ideas. All big, all vary. Some better than others. Where I start rummaging when I haven't seen what I'm looking for yet. On the other hand, you might just want to enter ingredients into Google....

    *****

    http://breadnet.net/

Yep. Bread. Long established. Actually, as much as I like this one, I wouldn't mind more bread sites, if any of you want to recommend some.

    *****

    http://www.californiafigs.com/
    http://www.ommegang.com/index.php?recip ... t=6&scat=3

I like figs. I like Belgian beer. So, these 2 are specialty sites.

The Artisan is my go to bread site.
Breadbakers Forum is another great go to site for baking bread.

Bill Wight has an extensive recipe collection here. From Bill's site:

    Recipe Format

All the recipes available here are in compressed format to make download times shorter. I used WinZip for the compression and you will need a copy of WinZip to uncompress the recipe files. The recipes within the cookbooks you can download are in MasterCook Export format (filename.mxp). The *.mxp files, when decompressed, are ready to import into any version of the MasterCook recipe management program. The *.mxp files are ASCII plain text and can be read by any word processor or text editor.

great list! Thanks for sharing your links....

My faves are on your list too - recipezaar.com and allrecipes.com

I also have a page of some of my recipes on recipecircus.com, under "foodielicious" - Yeah, cheesy...I know

I'd also like to add the following for great copycat recipes for popular restaurant items:

    - www.cdkitchen.com (which has more than just copycat recipes)
    - www.recipegoldmine.com (which has more than just copycat recipes)

Another really good recipe site is at: http://www.fooddownunder.com
It's not a pretty site, but it's a very extensive site with a good search engine.
    And there are no ads.

I just recently "discovered" the infinitely resourceful Shopping & Cooking board, and now to have this index ! Wow, thanks a bunch, that index is amazing.

I sometimes use http://www.recipehound.com for Vietnamese recipes or other Asian recipes. Not the greatest site, but very simple and successful recipes.

    Thanks,

King Arthur Flour has a nice recipe site for bakers:

As a child, I learned to cook from a Hershey's cookbook I got through mail order; these days, you can find these recipes online:

Although I have every issue of Saveur, I've found their searchable recipe database invaluable. It's searchable by cuisine, course or keyword:

A site that I like is http://www.ichef.com, which allows you to search a database of recipes to create and plan menus. You can link to other recipe sites and upload or copy recipes into the database.
