    LTH,

This weeks (1/20/06) Chicago Reader is organic farming oriented with articles about Green City's Farm Forager Mari Coyne, including mention of a full time market, a listing of CSA's (Community-Supported-Agriculture), the Earth Box, and a somewhat idiosyncratic organic farmer.

The articles, including the list of CSA's, are available online

    Enjoy,
    Gary

I know many of us visit the local Farmer's Markets on a regular basis, but now that I have switched to a train commute, I am interested in signing up with a CSA for the Summer and Fall. Preferably someone with a drop on the NW side or in Logan Square. Eggs, poulty, or meat are also a plus...

    Any input is appreciated!

Angelic Organics is relatively expensive as CSAs go -- $27 a week last year, maybe 28 this year -- but for that price you get 3/4 bushel of veg, enough to very easily share if you are just cooking for one or two. The quality of most of the offerings last year was very high, although some things (like the corn) weren't as good as the non-organic corn you can get at the Oak Park Farmers Market or at tons of stands in Wisconsin, etc.

We aren't doing it this year, largely because it felt incredibly wasteful not using everything, and because we're willing to make the trek to the farmers markets.

They've got lots of dropsites, including in Logan. No milk/eggs/meat, though.

I call this "box guilt." I skipped last year (Angelic) to avoid it. I probably ate fewer veggies, but found that I could supplement quite well with weekly trips to Green City.
