Can anyone recommend a good butcher in the area? I'm a Paulina Market girl since 1960 or so but hubby has grown tired of making the trek each week (not to mention the yuppified (?) prices). We need good steaks, chops, chicken . . . just a good old fashioned butcher. I'm not a fan of grocery store meat counters.

    Thanks.

Joseph's Finest Meats near Addison and Harlem (on Addison) is a nice small full-service italian butcher. USDA Prime was sold the last time I was there.

    Prices are about average.

    Ed,

The signs outside Joseph's Finest Meats proclaim that prime meats are carried inside. I 've seen what he claims to be prime beef and it isn't. It's a nice neighborhood butcher shop with a good selection of non meat items and slightly better than chain grocery store quality meats.

But there isn't any prime beef at Joseph's . Don't believe those forty year old signs.

Good to know :) I've honestly only been once, back when Jim's (across from Freddy's in Cicero) was still open. Jim's claimed on and off to sell prime, and I don't think they did in the few years before the closure, either.

I have to disagree. Joseph's Finest Meats does sell Prime meats. I've been going there for years. They are by far the best meat market I've ever been to and all there stuff is quality. Also, if you need specialty items, they can usually get it. I got a whole pig from there for a roast, and it was excellent.
