I came across this web site on Chicago Mag Dish. I'm always looking for a good slice of homemade pie. I also thought Cathy2 might like this too.

    Kim,

    Thanks for thinking of me!

    Regards,

When traveling north to Wisconsin along 94/41 we always stop at...

    Mars' Cheese Castle
    2800 120th Ave, Kenosha, WI
    (262) 859-2244

Along with our obligatory fried salami sandwich (for me) and a liverwurst for the wife we will grab a 'Apple Pie in a Bag'.

Nice sweet coated crust with crunchy edges and a nice fresh filling.

    Another place is...

    The Pioneer's Cabin
    1325 Main St.
    Crainville, Illinois
    Phone: (618) 985-8290

... on the way to Carbondale.

Along with the great family style meal you godda ask the waitress what kind of pie that they have. She will launch into a litany of the 100 or so pies that the have on hand every day.

At one visit my friend was eating his rhubarb pie and crying. When asked why the tears he replied that it was the best rhubarb pie he had ever eaten. Just like his moms.

    :)
