Ever since The Specialty Shop closed in Chicago Heights earlier this year, my family has been on the lookout for good, fresh italian sausage, and since so many of the well known sausage shops in 'da Heights have closed in the past few years, it's getting harder and harder to find. Granted, the owner of The Specialty Shop is now making his quality product for Scott's Market & Wines on Western Avenue in Chicago Heights, but it just isn't the same.

A friend of my husband's advised him that he is buying his sausage these days at D&D Foods. We've picked up their sausage a couple of times now and are very happy to report that they make a really good product, very fresh and delicious on the grill. Ada and Guido Damiani really know their stuff. While we have just been purchasing their regular sausage, they are happy to make up a hot version or a fennel version if you want -- just call the day before and they will have it ready for you when you get there.

D&D also carries a nice selection of imported and domestic italian specialty foods.

For anyone living in the southern suburbs who may not have found this gem, it's not hard to find -- it's on Halsted, right past the former Cipriani's restaurant.
