Source for Wire Shelving (discount? used?)

I'm looking for six feet of 18"-deep, 6 to 7 foot high wire shelving, on a budget. Used, good condition shelves would be fine.

I've been looking online for these, and prices are absurd when you add in shipping (especially when Costco, Menards, etc. etc. carry 4' units for $80 in the store... but four feet won't work for my space).

Can anyone direct me to
* Restaurants selling off their equipment
* Stores that sell used equipment from the above
* Places that discount

Have you checked out any of the resturant supply places in the West Loop? That seems like a natural.

I just bought a pair of 5-tier wire shelves at Target today for $54.99 a piece. They are 72" tall x 18" deep x 36" wide. The were reasonably easy to assemble, with a partner. I can't say I thought that was cheap, but it seems cheaper than the prices you cited.

Considering that shelving is usually composed of not much material and rather simple designs, I have always felt like it's overpriced, but I'm not a great bargain hunter, and when you need "a place for your stuff," you just have to pay up.

These don't appear to be on target.com, though. I don't know if you need to buy online, or if that was just how you were shopping.

The restaurant supply stores sound like a good idea too.

I have two six footers side by side in my kitchen that I purchased at KMart several years ago. If I recall. the price was around $50 each.

Y'know, we never checked Target, but I found them listed a Meijer. In chrome with wheels for $79.99 or black enameled without wheels for $49.99 -- we bought two sets of the black ones at 72x18x36" (funny thing, the ad said they were 18' deep -- heh.

ikea used to have racks that were 5-6' wide and 6' high or so... i feel like they had other sizes too.

we used to have a few in a loft i worked in to store tower servers on... they were pretty heavy duty

We checked out Ikea yesterday -- they only have limited sizes, and nothing deeper than 14".

Then, I saw Target is selling the same frelling wire shelves for $29.99 that we just bought for $49.99. Now another trip out to Meijer to return these.
