As a side (and mental break from my regular, mind-numbing job), I do a small business buying, selling, and trading used books online and with used book stores. I don't know why this didn't occur to me before now, but the thread on the Time-Life series reminded me of other threads about having too many cookbooks, picking the essential cookbooks to keep, storing and moving cookbooks, etc., and I'd like to make this offer:
If you have cookbooks you've decided you don't want to keep, let me know by PM, and I'll come and pick them up from you. For any that sell I'll split the sale price with you 50-50.
Mind you, often used books only sell for a dollar or so, or even less, but sometimes can sell for much more, and cookbooks are a perennially strong category in the used book biz. Hardbacks sell better than paperbacks, but paperback cookbooks sell better than other kinds (like fiction).
Cooking magazine collections
might have resale value too, especially if they're older and in good condition.
I hope posting this isn't an abuse of the board rules; I just thought of this as a way to gain experience in trading books in the cookbook category while doing some folks a favor getting those unwanted books out of the house and into good homes. And, get me out of the house a bit more and meet some more of you face-to-face and stop at some good places to eat on the way home.
