    Greetings,

Perhaps the wrong terminology accounts for my poor results on google and in the LTH search box, so forgive me if this has been covered elsewhere. I am trying to figure out how to hire a small staff (3-4) of people for a house party for which we already have food and beverages covered (so we're not needing a caterer). We just need help answering the door, hanging coats, and keeping on top of glassware as it gets left around the house. Can anyone recommend a company that provides such a service? Is it catering?
    With thanks as always!

Back in the day I worked a number of catered events as a temp. You could call Wolfgang Puck or another reputable caterer and ask where they get their temp staff.

You could try placing an ad on Craigslist in the Food/Beverage/Hospitality section.

Also, if you have a favorite restaurant, you could ask some of the folks that work there if they want to make some extra cash on their night off. You never know.

Call Molly at Fig Catering. Staffing events is part of what caterers do! She is splendid.

Back in the day, I worked for Carol's Event Staffing and worked many a private party. Happy to see they are still in business...

The quality of your staff is also important with beverage caterers. While someone with a basic sense of what goes into a martini can be responsible for making drinks, hiring a team of bartenders that are excellent with hundreds of specialty beverages will certainly make your guests happier. Great bartenders are fast while still being friendly and they will be able to handle any order or situation. You will also find that great bartenders ensure that all legal bases are covered and that they are properly certified to perform their jobs.
