I was at the kick-off meeting last night, and they asked for volunteers. The form they handed out says there will be many ways to help, but doesn't list everything (mentions greetings attendees, passing out speaker handouts, prepping food for demo classes, assisting at special events, and answering questions in the hospitality room, but this is not exhaustive).
Then it simply asks volunteers to list any special interests and talents that would be useful, such as agood knowledge of Chicago or if you're a culinary student, and then give your name, address, e-mail, etc. and send all the info to Dot Vartan, Volunteer Coordinator: 847-676-1651 or
vartan@rcn.com -- but the form adds that, once you volunteer, you may not hear back until Jan. or Feb.
I will say that the plans for the opening event sound quite grand -- though somewhat reminiscent of Feast of the Senses (hey, why reinvent the wheel when you can simply upgrade to a Rolls). It will be at the Merchandise Mart, sprawling through the fabulous new Luxe Home mall of design galleries (some incredible kitchen fixtures there, among other delights), with food and entertainment positioned in the halls and galleries.
So that's the latest on volunteer opportunities. Of course, by now, you may both know all of this, but since your last post sounded as though you were still waiting, I thought I'd pass this on. Just let Dot know you're interested in helping.
