My husband and I just started Irv & Shelly's Fresh Picks http://www.freshpicks.com. We get wonderful produce, meats, dairy and eggs from local farmers and deliver customized or Fresh Picks Box orders of what's ripest to your door!

We will need help with recipes for what's in season like bok choy, cabbage and sugar snap peas coming up (I'll post) and also to spread the word to folks who want fresh, local and organic foods. All ordering is online. Our goal is to support sustainable farmers and increase the supply of healthy local food into Chicago.

    Thanks!

    shelly,
I am going to head to your website now. I used to order from King's Hill Farm; but when my roomie moved out, I was not able to keep up with the large 1/2 share for a single person.

The single box option sounds great! Probably something I'll do every other week, and I'm so glad you posted about this.

    thanks!

Your business sounds great!!! I am seriously considering joining.

I used to order from Timbercreek farms but their delivery times were at 2am and I could not coveniently receive the box and much of the produce would wilt.

The fact that you pack it with ice could really help!!

I noticed that Shellyh's kids are named Miles and Lia. MikeG, is this your alter ego? Seriously, you can do better on the names. Did you think leaving off the "m" would fool anybody?

This is really a joke. MikeG's kids are named Miles and Liam, for those who do not know.

We used to order Timbercreek as well, since they offered a small percentage of sales to our preschool. We used to get monthly deliveries, but stopped, primarily because of the 1am delivery time, and also because they stopped the fundraising partnership. (I do miss the way their box would force me to cook creatively)

If I could add my .02, partnering with local schools as a fundraiser, similar to what "Market Days" does might be a way to increase your business. This would reduce your delivery cost - and maybe I could get the smaller boxes less often. I don't eat organic exclusively, so $35.00 worth of veggies twice a month would eat up a lot of my food budget, but I'd definitely be in the market for a monthly pick-up at my school.

The trick would be finding schools that have an active enough volunteer base to do the work of handing stuff out.
