Either in the city or out, experience the fine wines of Illinois. Illinois wineries are showcased at http://whitewinered.com/Illinois. Some wineries include Cellers de Santom as well as Berryville Vineyards

Several years ago, I received a couple bottles of Chocolate Flavored Raspberry Port Wine from Illinois River Winery in Utica. They were really quite good as well as some of the other wines sampled.

I look forward to hearing some of your wine expertise. What are your favorite Illinois wineries? In general, I am partial to dry reds and viognier but I love a good fruit wine every now and then.

We have had wine from the Waterman Winery in Waterman Illinois. The one red we tried was too "light" tasting but they had a spiced wine that was very good which we purchased and enjoyed last Thanksgiving. I remember that 30 years ago the Illinois wineries were limited to just being allowed to make fruit wines and that the nearest actual wineries were in Michigan.

I'm only an expert of my own likes and dislikes....
The few IL wines (dry red wines) I've had (from grapes grown in the state) were lacking in balance and tasted mostly of toasty oak barrels. The sweet wines were mostly just sweet, no complexity and also lacking the need acidity to balance the sweetness. The IL wines, made from CA grapes have been thin and uninteresting.

If I want to drink wines made from Lodi fruit, I'll get the ones made in CA for a lot less $$ then the ones I've had from IL wineries.

I'm not too picky about where the wines I drink are from,
last night we had wines from CA, France, Italy & Spain

For decent reds try Genkota Winery in Mt.Vernon and for a good white,Utica Winery makes one called "Tears or the River.
    Great name,Eh?
just over the border in Richmond,Wisc.is Staller Estates Winery run by a great young couple that have actually plant their own vines just Noth of Delevan Wisc at County H and Rt 89.Their Reserve II is a very good semi-sweet red.
