So, as my signature below states, I work for Groupon. Some people have expressed a desire to have a listing of restaurant related Groupons because sometimes (like today's Chick-Fil-A deal) deals will not show up when you visit the site. So since I do have some advanced knowledge of upcoming deals, I am offering to post them (Chicagoland only) on this thread on a daily basis.

Disclaimer: The links I will be posting will be part of Groupon's Affiliate Program. What does that mean? Well, when you click on the link and buy a Groupon, Groupon will give me a certain percentage commission of the sale. The tracking on the link is through a company called Commission Junction. The proceeds I get from the purchases generated from these links (minus taxes) will be donated to a charity of my choice. So I don't really gain anything from doing this.

I just want to be as transparent as I can be about this endeavor. If there are any strong objections to me doing this posting, please let me know either by posting on this thread or private messaging me. Thanks!

I think this was the perfect approach to a good cause. I'll be tuning into the thread.

Thanks, CrazyC, for the ultra-transparency and for your willingness to invite objections. I think you have approached this exactly the right way and have no suggestions for how you could do it better.

However, I think LTHForum should establish a policy prohibiting this kind of use of the site. This is essentially a permanent advertisement that will appear at the top of the page on a daily basis. I don't want the site to have advertising at all, but if it's going to happen anyway, the people who run the site might as well generate some revenue. This is a slippery slope - if it works for you here, I'd expect every one of your competitors to post their own daily thread of deals too. I'm not OK with that, but if the site owners are they should at least make some money from it.

I think those who want to receive Groupon deals should sign up on the site for daily emails and/or visit the Groupon website. This is a discussion board, not a place to *continuously* post things you are selling, promoting, etc.

Moreover, there is already a thread for people to post coupons (many of which are Groupon deals). It strikes me as odd that we should have a separate thread for Groupon. I don't mind the existing thread, since it is clear that people mainly post deals for good restaurants. I think posts about deals for places that few have heard about and no one has discussed on this board strike me as spam.

Thanks everyone for the input. I think I will stop posting the deals on this thread. Maybe I would just post the "interesting" ones on the existing coupon thread instead?

CrazyC, I appreciate your taking the initiative to post regular updates about offers from Groupon (really the only "coupon" I use) and admire your graciousness in the face of the inevitable backlash.

    HI,

I saw this on FAcebook this morning:

    Shipley Do-Nuts
For those of you not familiar, you must click the link below, purchase the Groupon, THEN bring the purchased Groupon into the store of your choice. Showing the post doesn't get you the deal! Thanks friends!

If I lived near a Shipley, I would consider myself lucky. Al their shops are in the south, so I am spared the temptation.

    Regards,
    Cathy2
