    Hi all--

My brother-in-law has coached his ice hockey team (Wilfrid Laurier U, Waterloo, ON) to the Canadian University national championship tournament. The final games will be shown on the Canadian sports network TSN in late March.

Does anyone know of any bars that carry this network? I'm thinking that a place that draws a hockey crowd would carry this network, but I am not aware of any dedicated hockey bars since Cheli's is, as I recall, now closed.

    Patrick,

Congratulations to your brother-in-law! That's quite an achievement.

Alas and alack, interest in hockey has waned here considerably in recent years, as the Blackhocks have become little more than an AHL team in original six sweaters. The only bar I know that has even a subscription to the NHL package is my old haunt, Kasey's, in the 700 block of South Dearborn. But I have a few teammates who are from north of the border and I'll ask them and see if they have any suggestions for you.

By the way, have you checked with the consulate? Maybe they have a cultural affairs person who could help you out...

Congratulations ! That should be a good game with UQTR this weekend too.

Unfortunately, I can't offer you any suggestions, nor do I have a hope in hell trying to find any of those games down here in Texas.

    Good luck !

    Patrick,

Three solutions, none of which are great.

    1) Contact TSN to see if you can purchase a tape of the game or if it is webcast for a fee. I tried to connect to their website (www.tsn.ca) but was unsuccessful.

    2) Contact a Canadian friend and have them record it via their VCR. (I do this a lot as I don;t have cable or satellite.)

    3) Southwest has a sale $49 OW to Detroit. Then drive over to Windsor to any of the hundred sports bars in the town. Actually, that sounds like the best idea (and I can give you some good ideas on cheap hotels / great restaurants in the area).

    Hi all--

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions. I've just found out that it appears the games will be webcast, including those to be shown on TSN, so I may be alright if they have enough bandwidth to handle all the connections they get.

Sad to hear this isn't much of a hockey town anymore.
