This is cool for all virtual reality aficionados! You can help MIT develop the first "collaboratively authored computer game" and be listed as one of the game designers. By going to
http://web.media.mit.edu/~jorkin/restaurant/ you can download the client program for this two-player simulation that, like Second Life or World of Warcraft, takes place at a restaurant where you take on the role of either waiter or guest. The web server sets you up with another player, and you interact -- with the capability to move, pick up objects, chat, etc. There's also a bartender and chef on hand, and as you play games (takes about 10 minutes) you either make money as the waiter, or spend money you've earned as the guest. There seems to only be activity at certain times, and you may have to wait a while until a second player shows up. Not sure if there's a way yet for two LTHers to play at the same time; probably possible if both choose the same server from the list presented at the same time. MIT is using the data to put together a single -player version for later release.
