Street Food

On the subject of Thai food I travel often to Thailand and enjoy the street vendor style but usually visit this area known for having more upscale, though, still very authentic, street food:

Does Chicago have such a district? I'm in Seattle and the local officials don't allow any type of street vendor food.

The closest we have is probably the Maxwell Street Market,a flea market held every Sunday with lots of Mexican food.
