Brian Hieggelke, editor of Newcity here. We're coming to the close of our polling Chicago for our annual Best of Chicago poll, and we have 15+ categories of interest to foodies. They range from Best Ethiopian and Best brunch to Best craft cocktails and Best gastropub, whether or not it calls itself a gastropub. We'd really like to see the informed users of LTH weigh in, and invite you to vote here:

Also, your input on future categories or other ways to do what we do better is always welcomed. Thanks.

Folks, I want to point out what a mass LTHForum swarm could mean.

It could mean Sultan's Market might not win "Best Falafel" yet again.

Hey, I can dream! I'm heading there right now!

    Or, Not Sultan's!

Anybody else feeling a warm glow that publications we don't give any credence to are coming to us now?

Actually, the food stuff in New City is mostly written by LTH poster MJN.

And way back when, A. LaBan's Cheap Chow column was one of the better explorations of what is now our beat, back when print paid a lot less attention to it.

So while I make fun of the all-too-explicable popularity of a middling Wicker Park joint on their reader poll list, their actual writer stuff is nothing to sneeze at.

I always enjoy the pieces by LTH'er Mike Nagrant that appear at NewCity Chicago's web site and I routinely include them in the Weekly Chicago Food-Media Digest.

Sorry - I was referring to the polls in general (truthfully, I don't really read NewCity and therefore can't say anything about it one way or the other)

Me too, as well as the ones that make it to print; I pick up copies regularly at a local campus; definitely worthwhile.
