You may or may not know about Wikepedia, the all-volunteer, open contribution online encyclopedia. It has its faults, but one great feature is that anyone -- and I mean ANYONE -- can edit any article in the encyclopedia. The theory is that eventually this will have a corrective effect, resulting in a hyper-accurate encyclopedia with a huge scope of coverage, as well. I don't know whether that theory makes sense (e.g., see this dissenting voice:
