Interesting article.
On a related note: I recently discovered that cured meats (along with a long list of foods) are a thing to avoid for headache suffers. I discovered this the hard way. A few months ago I had a status migraine (which is a rare type of headache that NEVER goes away... it was terrible), I had to be hospitalized. Apparently this can be caused from certain foods-- something that I am in denial of. So, the worst part of the whole ideal was, when the doctor comes in and hands me this long list of foods that don't interact well with the medications that i was taking. Apparently, when meat ages it releases a protein that interferes with the medication DHE and can cause worse headaches. Other foods on the lists included sauerkraut, and fava beans.
When I first got the news I cried for about an hour, thinking "What is a life worth living if I can't eat sausage?! No more salami! What will i do without bacon!" But I was able to get over it eventually, knowing that in 2 weeks after i was off the medication i could start eating my sausage again.
My doctor has pleaded with me to be hot-dog free until after Christmas, just to be safe. At first I was cautious. But, after the week when I had Hot Doug's three times, I think its safe to say that I can safely eat all the sausage I want.
