I got an email from our department administrative assistant late this evening:

My daughters have been in touch with people from Louisiana, and it is not the
undamaged picture being painted after the devastation of Katrina. One of the
biggest needs is that it seems most of the state can't buy bread. In some areas,
there isn't any power so the grocery stores aren't open yet although it's my
understanding that in some cases power is slowly being restored. In an effort to
get bread to family members, Rebecca found that they do have mail service, but it's
slower than usual, so to just send through regular mail could take a week to 10
days. To overnight a half-dozen loaves of bread is $100, and in some cases,
overnight could still mean 2 or 3 days. Does anyone have any experience or ideas
with getting needed items into areas with such problems?

If someone could offer some advice I'd appreciate and relay the tip. Please respond here or pm me.
My understanding is that the shipping is to two locations - just outside NO and near Baton Rouge.

    Thanks!
