The decorating article was....ummmm.....errrr.....yup, it was an article, all right. The meet-cute part was really funny, though. At Trotter's, of all unlikely places? Go figure.

Re the recipes, I am genuinely baffled about the last recipe. Am I missing something, or just stupid, in not being able to figure out why they are called "fondant" cakes? I don't see anything in the recipe about using fondant, or their having a fondant-y texture (and thank god for that, IMO). Did the crack proofers at the Trib perhaps turn the word "fondue" into "fondant"? A little help here! :?

Anyway, thanks for posting, Gary. I generally don't pick up the Sunday Trib anymore, so I'd have missed it completely.

    Peg,

You didn't find the gold sari tablecloth enchanting? A few years ago, I still have the clipping, the tribune showed a king size bedspread made of saris ... price tag was $15,000.

    Cathy -

Dying laughing here. To be honest, and probably a bit snarky (oh, who am I kidding - a LOT snarky!), the piece sort of put me in mind of...

"Semi-Homemade Cooking with Sandra Lee," AKA the dirty little secret of the Food Network. The mean side of me frequents a site called "TV Without Pity," where the show is viciously - and hilariously - lampooned non-stop, and deservedly so. One word: "Tablescape."

Thanks for the guffaw. And Chef Cantu, the foregoing has nothing to do with you. Seriously. I hope.

(The "how-to reality" forum is where this smorgasbord of the very questionable can be found, if you are so inclined....)

Peg, I'm in tears after reading some of those message board entries on TWoP. The sexy soiree thread left me gasping for air I was laughing so hard. Here's the link for those who need a good laugh.

    Will -

Glad you liked it - I had the same reaction. There are some posts on the Sandra Lee topics that will make you do big-time spit-takes right on your keyboard if you aren't careful. So evil, so funny....

My very favorite post, though, was on the Charlie Trotter thread. Begin that he is not exactly Mr. Sunshine on his PBS show, and never, ever smiles, a cynical wag promptly dubbed the production "Charlie Trotter's Kitchen of Despair." Just outstanding.

Enjoy! You have a lot of exploring to do!
