    Gary:

Congratulations on your nomination for the post of new chef at the White House which was announced today in John Kass' column in the Tribune.

If you accede to this lofty post, I request only that you not use my bucatini alla Matriciana recipe. In any event, they probably wouldn't like it as it is, after all, European, and with the ever shrinking dollar, imported San Marzano pomodori pelati will be beyond the budget.

    :D :P

I always knew he had a lot of taste and integrity...Robert at Honey 1, that is.

Seriously, though, congratulations Gary, the recognition is well-deserved.

    Gary,

Remember, I knew you BEFORE the gold rush!

What an interesting angle, a white sous horse I'm sure was the instigator. They probably feared rejection by asking directly, so had the Chicago Tribune vet the question instead. A clever way to avoid rejection.

So when you sleep in Lincoln's bedroom, bring your camera as I want a picture of his ghost. When you fly on Air Force 1, do a souvenir grab so all your friends will have a bit of the thrill. Oh, when you have a big event and need to line up a bunch of WSM, send the plane over and I'll help out. Need to pad the guest list at a dinner, well I'm a good conversation generator and maybe I already have my clearance!

    Fun!

    LTH,

Thanks all and a big thanks to John Kass, a man who knows great BBQ (and should soon know how to make it for himself). Congratulations are also in order to Robert Adams who makes some of the best BBQ in Chicago at Honey 1.

Way to go, Gary! Just read the article at dinnertime; I don't think it's all farfetched that a President would eventually dismiss a chef that can't/won't prepare favorite comfort foods well. And does the White House even need a sole chef de cuisine -- I'm sure the sous chefs can handle the daily cooking, and the Trotters and Baylesses of the world could be summoned by executive order to spend two-week or one-month stints at the President's will. (I'd have Morimoto do my inaugural month.)
