    Interesting article in today's NYT about a book which argues that cooking our food is what made the human species successful in evolutionary terms. Makes raw foodies' views look imperiled.

    While the article does make some interesting points, I think his emphasis on the cooking aspect ignores many other factors, specifically the use of tools and language. I'd make the presumption that psychoactive plants were a catalyst in those areas.

    I mentioned this a couple months ago about the trip I'd taken to Houston and seeing the difference between Australopithecine fossils ("Lucy") and modern man.

    You can't digest and process enough raw food to do more with your life than gather food, unless you're already wealthy.
