Just got the new edition (nice thing about owning a bookstore).
Local spots listed include Al's on Taylor, Berghoff, Billy Goat, Fluky's (past it's peak, if you ask me), Gene & Georgetti, Gene & Jude's, Poochie's (good for them), Stash's, Walker Brothers (hmm, really? hardly the best breakfast food, and certainly not the best prices).

As sort of the predecessor to the Chowhound phenom, this is the second copy we've owned, and it's about 50% bigger than before. Their organization is still baffling: divided by non-alphabetical regions, then alphabetical by resto -- finding something along your route can be a chore, although the map pages help somewhat.

I haven't had much of a chance to peruse it, but I've got some road trips coming up, so I'll add more feedback here as I use it.

    $18.95 list price

    Hi,

It's been 8 years since Sterns published Eat Your Way Across the USA. I have all the various editions of Roadfood and/or Goodfood and the cookbooks which offer recipes from their roadfood books. I consider the Sterns books my training wheels for off-the-radar type restaurants I favor. I loved reading how they drove around in used cars with shoe boxes full of hints from readers. It was quite inspiring.

Until very recently, Roadfood and Eat Your Way were permanent residents in the car. Replaced by the Chicago Streets and San's Guide and whatever ideas I've collected. I still refer to them though with access to websites like these as well as roadfood.com website it falls short. It does not mean I won't buy this new book eventually, I'm just not flying out the door like I did 8 years ago.

Thanks for alerting us they have a new book.

    Regards,
    Cathy2
