I did go to the IWSB event and, honestly, felt a little lost. There were aisles of wine, beer and hard liquor, some of which I felt no necessity to try (e.g., Modelo beer -- I know it, it's fine, why bother?) and others that were unique and that I'd never seen before (an interesting Lithuanian liquor that was kind of a cross between an aperitif and a digestif and Gertrude Tripel, a fine Belgian ale that is not yet distributed in the US but that I hope will be).

I went to a few Rioja tastings this year, and each time, before I tasted anything, I reviewed the available beverages and noted the ones I really wanted to try -- then I sought them out and tried them. At IWSB I did not do that kind of homework, and I should have.
