I don't mean to be too jaded, but Mario Batali calling for moderation? Someone must have ghost written that for him. This is the man who is renowned in NY for late night partying ordering wine after wine after wine, dish after dish after dish, until the sun begins to rise.

Good message; just knowing how he lives, I can't imagine it actually came from him. If so, he certainly isn't known for practicing what he's preaching.

Mario has lost 40 or so pounds this year.

I didn't see anything in here that, even if he were still embracing the aforementioned lifestyle, wouldn't qualify him to advocate for safer, more responsible practices in the production of our food and the feeding of our kids. Heck--maybe he just wants them to get the chance to grow up to enjoy all the crazy things that he has!

I like Mario better then most of the Food Networks Chefs, but every time I've seen him over the years as his success grew so did he. I'm surprised that he hasn't had a heart attack by now considering his size. If he's lost 40 pounds, then good for him but he probably needs to shed about another 100 to make a difference. Some people would say "Never trust a skinny Chef", personally I don't subscribe to that "theory". My Dad had heart disease my whole life with multiple heart surgeries and midnight runs to Evanston hospital so I have an intimate understanding of over indulgence.
