Does anyone know a reliable place to get knives sharpened in this neck of the woods?

    Thanks!

I know it's too late for this season, but the Morton Grove Farmers Market had a guy doing knife sharpening every Saturday morning during the spring/summer/fall.

Saturday morning trip down to Northwestern Cutlery only takes 15 minutes from Dempster on Edens/Kennedy....

Under any other circumstances I would do that, but I'm working Saturday morning in Long Grove, and I'd rather not risk the commute taking longer than I think it will.

I just got this thing through the LTH Amazon link, and for the price (under $30), it does a pretty good job. I ran some of my knives which I thought were pretty sharp already, and the difference afterwards was impressive. It's a lot easier than going to a pro knife sharpener.

Let me know if the link doesn't work.

A bit of a hike, but I take all my knives down to Northwestern Cutlery

    Northwestern Cutlery & Supply, Inc
    810 W. Lake Street
    Chicago, Illinois 60607
    1-888-248-4449
    http://www.northwesterncutlery.net/

They have been in the business a long time, and charge 3.50 a knife, regardless of size.

Hi- I am not sure if he is still there, but there used to be somebody at the Skokie Farmer's Market on Sunday morning's on Oakton, right next to the public library. I believe he charged $3 a knife, but it has been a while since I had one sharpened. I think that there is somebody that comes to the Evanston market on Saturday mornings too. I don't know how much he charges though. Finally Field's used to have free knife sharpening a couple of times a year at their Old Orchard store. Since Macy's took over the store, I am not sure if they still offers this service. If Macy's still offers this service, please let me know. Thanks, Nancy
