This movie is the comdedic version of My Dinner with Andre. The premise is two British actors (playing themselves) take a trip through the English countryside to sample haute cuisine. I believe all of the restaurants visited are real. Neither is a foodie, and the meals are just the premise for their musings about life, mainly done through impersonations of actors. Lots of Michael Caine and ?Sean Connery. Indeed, they revel in the fact that they don't know much about food. It's hard to describe this movie in which nothing really happens, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

When I saw the thread title, I immediately thought of the 1967 Roger Corman LSD film with Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper that preceded Easy Rider, and wondered what the food connection could possibly be. (Shows you what a difference frame of reference can make.) But now that you describe it, I saw the preview for this The Trip recently, and immediately decided it was a must-see. Few previews have that effect on me; I'm glad the film is as good as the preview made it look.
