Lapham's Quarterly's current issue is all about food. It's a quarterly magazine (more like a book) that consolidates historical articles about one subject per issue. Summer 2011 is about food. I got a copy at my local bookstore - it's amazing! Articles written by authors from ancient Rome are alongside articles by modern authors like Anthony Bourdain. And the artwork is great too. I highly recommend it.

Thanks for the link. Lapham's Quarterly looks like a great read! This issue is about to find its way into my "reading room".

Thanks for the reminder, bon2mic. I was actually able to read a lot of it from Lapham's website. I particularly liked Brent Cunningham's "Pastoral Romance."

Thanks bon2mic. Just read "Upton Sinclair Tours the Factory". I also enjoyed happy_stomach's suggestion of Pastoral Romance. I think I'll read a few more entries before returning to work!

I'm so glad you are all really enjoying this! I have loved reading it at home. I haven't done a comparison with how much of the mag is online vs. in the print version, but the magazine itself is over 200 pages long so I suspect there is a lot more there than there is online. The writing is wonderful, but so far, my favorite dinner party conversation starter is from one of the charts/graphics about food. Anyone know the top 3 coffee drinking countries per capita? The answer, according to the mag:

    Finland
    Norway
    Denmark
