Getting off the L last week, I noticed the live fish truck unloading its cargo for Chinatown Market (Archer & Wentworth). I've seen the same truck several times before but this was the first time I had a chance to watch for a while.

This big truck drives up from Arkansas carrying thousands of pounds (I'm guessing) of farm-raised fish. The truck is equipped with oxygen tanks to aerate the densely-packed tanks. Fish are netted, dumped into bins, weighed, then wheeled into the market. Interesting way to while away ten minutes before shopping (no, I didn't buy a fish).

Yep, same truck. It wasn't a capsaicin-induced hallucination.

    Hi,

In the late 80's or early 90's, I saw a similar set up in front of Catfish City in Waukegan. Except it was a far smaller truck with a tank on the bed. Otherwise the netting, weighing and moving those fish into a display tank in the store was the same.
