You know the old adage: Never trust a thin chef ... Well, if a new TV series has its way, there are going to be a few more untrustworthy chefs running around.

The brains behind 'Kitchen Nightmares' and 'Celebrity Fit Club' have finally decided to blend the two biggest movements in reality TV right now -- cooking and weight loss -- and are putting together a new show that aims to help overweight food industry workers lose weight and get fit.

Lest the concept conjures up images of obese guys in toques being abused by Gordon Ramsay as they run on a treadmill while cooking Michelin Star-worthy food, the casting call* aims to appeal to just about everyone involved in the food industry.

"If you are 75+ pounds overweight or potentially unhealthy & have a job in the food industry, this is your chance to turn your life around!"

Cooks, critics, bloggers, fisherman, farmers, wait staff, truck drivers, cookbook authors, grocers and more are invited to apply. In fact, just about any adult who has any professional connection to food beyond just eating it, and is at least 75lbs overweight, seems eligible to take part in the new "Weight Loss TV Docu-Series."

To apply, interested parties should submit their personal details plus a couple of photos (we're betting that unflattering ones would be best) and a 300-word essay on why they should be on the show.

The aim of the series is for the contestants "to get their health & their lives back on track & finally achieve their weight loss goals." Successful applicants will be tracked and (yelled at) helped by professional trainers, nutritionists and medical professionals for 17 weeks.

The project is still in the early stages and no details have yet been released as to which channel will air the show, or what it's called -- 'Fat Chef'? 'The Biggest Foodie'? 'Weight Loss Nightmares'? Stay tuned for updates."

I think it is a great concept. I love Celebrity Fit Club. I like that they send them home with a plan, and how tough it is when they are on their own to lose it. It's not like the Biggest Loser where they take a couple months off their normal life. I want to see how these chefs are going to impart flavor without butter and oils. Art Smith is the latest to lose weight. It's rare to see a celebrity chef overweight anymore. I'm pretty bored cooking all my low cal/fat meals. Hopefully, they can show me some new techniques to spice it up.

I kind of hope one of them just gives up, and goes off on a 20-minute rant about how life isn't worth living without butter, bacon, or ice cream. Because it's really not.

Did anything happen with this show? Did it reach the airways?

I love to savory the food, but to keep from over eating while preparing, I chew gum.

I agree with Razbry. Not the most suitable choice of programmes to be aired on TV.

I am one of 12 Chefs who are working to lose weight and get healthy for their newest show called Fat Chef. I will be on one of the last episodes! The title, "Fat Chef" indicates (to me anyway) that this is just going to be another exploitation of fat people. There is always hope, however, that there will be some positive aspects of the show.

Well, isn't the show about chefs who are fat?

Hi- Fat Chef is premiering on the Food Network tomorrow 1/26 at 9:00 pm. It is going to be a six part series, and it sounds like each episode is going to feature one chef who wants to lose weight. 18 weeks is spent filming them, and helping them lose weight. What is interesting is that they are not whisked off to some spa. The chefs continue maintaining their jobs as chefs, and so they are around food all day.

Three of the chefs featured are from the Chicago area, and one is a pastry chef at the Marion Street Cheese Market in Oak Park. One of the participants has lost 100 pounds so far. If you can not watch it tomorrow night, I am sure that the Food Network is going to give you lots of opportunities to watch it again. For those who are subscribers to Comcast, I am sure that you will be able to watch it on demand. Hope this helps, Nancy
