I just picked up a copy of "Crazy Plates" "Low fat food so good you'll swear it's bad for you". By Janet & Greta Podleski
The dedication is "To our wonderful and supportive sisters, Helen, Margie, Theresa, and Donna. We blame them for our warped personalities. One bathroom. You do the math".

The puns are awful. i read it cover to cover, and am now looking for more suggestions.

This is one of my favorites. Really good, moist chocolate cake in there. Very funny, snarky, sardonic writing.

If you want something retro, both food- and humor-wise, look for a copy of Hyman Goldberg's 1964 Our Man In the Kitchen. It's half recipes and half jokes. The baked gefilte fish is awesome.

    Roald Dahl's Revolting Recipes

I have this book, I could lend it to you.

Not sure it's still in print, but Penn & Teller's How to Play with Your Food has some fun, amusing ideas.

Laz - I think that I have a copy of that due to my (late) mother
    Cathy2 - I would love to read a copy.

One Bite Won't Kill You, Beat This, and Beat That, all by Ann Hodman. All 3 are very funny.

I think the late Peg Bracken's books are absolutely hilarious. Gives one an entirely different perspective of the 'Mad Men' era, that's for sure (she was an ad coywriter in the 50's & early 60's). Start with the "I Hate to Cook Book," and go from there. Highly recommended!

While it doesn't contain specific jokes IIRC, Kenny Shopsin's Eat Me has a lot of funny and interesting stories about his experiences in the kitchen, etc. I highly recommend picking this up, even if you aren't planning to cook from it (but you should do that too!)

Q: What did the cannibal say after he served a clown he had just cooked?

A: Does this taste funny to you?

    Sorry, couldn't resist.

I absolutely agree. And her recipes are better than you might think.

Amy Sedaris has a very, very funny book, "I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence." http://www.amysedarisrocks.com/ilikeyou.htm

I totally second the Amy Sedaris nomination. And she has awesome cheese ball recipes.
