Hi- Did anyone see the American Baking competition on CBS Sunday night? It is one of those shows where all the contestants are amateur bakers, and one person gets eliminated every week. For the first round, one of the contestants made a peanut butter, bacon and chocolate pie. I love peanut butter, but I don't know if I would like peanut butter and bacon together. The competition includes both sweet and savory items.

In the first round the baker could make whatever they wanted, and in the second round they had to make the same thing, and follow a recipe that did not give explicit instructions, such as how long to bake it. Thanks, Nancy

FYI, the regular night this is on is Wednesday. Sunday was a repeat broadcast. Not sure whether they plan to repeat on Sunday every week.

I thought they did a pretty good job with this show, focusing on the baking and not reality show theatrics (unlike anything with Gordon Ramsay). I also liked that the second round was blind judged.

The second round last week pretty much just gave them a list of ingredients without proportions and was a bit tricky since they were supposed to make an English savory pie with a hot water crust, which I think is uncommon in the US (one of the judges is British, which might explain how they came up with the idea).

Last week was pies/tarts. I get the impression they may focus on a different item each week.
