Ooo, that place sounds great! Sounds like an excuse for a road trip.

It's wonderful. The food was terrific, the service was perfect, and the chef (Dan Fox, who also raises his own hogs!) came out to visit, just to be nice. Sent out a whole plate of the fabulous deviled eggs, too:

There are a lot of fine places to dine solo in Madison. This is one of my favorites.

This is a totally awesome post!

Reminds me of a verse in a poem by Oriah Mountain Dreamer:
    I want to know
    if you can be alone
    with yourself
    and if you truly like
    the company you keep
    in the empty moments.

I recently dined alone at Goosefoot (they are one of the few fine dining establishments that offers single seat reservations) And it was truly delightful! I sat at a table by myself with my iPad. I was treated well by the excellent and attentive staff. I loved that I was able to relish each dish, taking my time, and not having to worry if my dinner companion liked the same thing and such. I definitely plan on doing more fine dining alone in the near future.

With that said, I tend to be cautious of the choice of restaurant as some restaurants do tend to want more than 1 person taking up a table. I'm talking about all busy restaurants. Unless they have a bar where they serve a full menu, I would avoid the super trendy/busy spots as 1) may not be as comfortable in general (noise level, lack of personal space) and 2) staff might try to get you in and out so they flip that table for a larger bill.
