while biking home last night, i saw an interesting (and BIG) sign posted on outside of the window at the now closed oberweiss dairy on fullerton.

    It read...

"Closed because Illinois rejects anti-immigrant bigotry"

that sign, however, was removed by the time i left for work this morning.

I think what you were seeing was an example of "highway blogging." Perhaps the first sighting in Illinois? http://www.nobodydied.com/

    Brief clarification:

Posts on highway blogging, and particularly as it relates to food places, is fine on this forum. Pure political discussions are not something we encourage here, as there are so many other places to have them.

Figured I would get this in now, just in case someone felt compelled to take this down the path of commenting on the political sentiments contained in some of the messages.

Thanks for the info, Ann & Sharon. This is a new one for little old me.

Maybe "warning" posts like this are good so we avoid having to edit or remove posts later, or maybe not? Feel free to PM me, or start a discussion on Site Talk if you have an opinion on that. Cause we love opinions, in fact that is what we are all about 8) . Seriously, we are looking for opinions and feedback on this whole moderation thing. But not here. Returning topic to Sharon's control...

well, i went to penguin for the first time this past sunday - what a food day for me. hungry for cuban and not wanting to travel to la unica, i had a cuban sandwich at ambassador - my favorite neighborhood standby. then i decided to ride it off a little, then pack it back on with a trip to penguin. had a sampling with mr 3initial of a few flavors - grapefruit ice, peach ice, coconut, dulce de leche w/walnuts and sambayon w/almonds. the ices were wonderful - very fresh and not too sweet, refreshing to the palate. the coconut was just o.k in my opinion. the dulce was really good, almost gritty in texture, but the flavor really tasted like caramelized sugar. but the best was that sambayon - ohh, so rich & creamy, really the way ice cream should be. after this ice cream orgy i continued on to the lawrence/kedzie area where we spotted city noor kabob (posted under schwarma king thread) and ate yet more food.

my pants are a little tight this week.

but back to oberweiss - i really just wanted a decent ice cream place w/in stumbling distance of home. the "sign" in the window seemed like it came a little too late as the dairy closed a few weeks back. :?
