The Chow Poodle got a Toshiba laptop from Santa. I'm looking for some non-pro, easy to use photo editing software for her. I'd install Photoshop on the machine, but she can barely figure out how to copy files from her camera to the PC as it is. All she needs to do is simple cropping, maybe red-eye removal and image resizing. Nothing fancy. Does anyone have any suggestions for some simple idiot-proof (not that my wife is an idiot) software?

Micrsoft "Picture It" is pretty simple. I use Adobe Photoshop Elements but it is a little more complicated. For the simple basic stuff I do I'm considering going back to Picture It.

I'd look at Picasa (now from Google). It satisfies your listed requirements, has some other easy fixes (including the equivalent of an I feel lucky adjustment), also good for organizing photos, and it's FREE. Link to download and review below.

    I second the Picasa suggestion.

Picasa is an amazing program for sorting and doing basic edits to photos. I'm a photographer by profession, and I use Photoshop and all that jazz, but when I'm sorting and quickly going through several hundred photos, none does the job as fast, smoothly, and as well as Picasa. I've used ACDSee, Photo Mechanic, and other professional programs, but for my purposes, Picasa is easier and faster to use.

If you want to get into some slightly more serious editing work (because Picasa is meant more as an organizational tool than an in-depth photo manipulating program), Photoshop Elements gives you pretty much all the tools you're ever going to need.

I've also heard goods about the open source GIMP. I've never used it, so I can't vouch for it, but give it a go on your system and see what you think of it.
