:D Just to let you know I've registered onto the board here (and still remember a few of you from the LSC chowdown a couple of labor days ago). There are too many Bruces around these days, both here and on the chowhound board, so I've decided to change my name:"baltodog."
I'm still an ex-pat living up in north central wisconsin, but I look forward to coming to Chicago around labor day; will announce particulars later, either by email (lth) or this forum or both. My wife Ann and I would welcome guidance through a lunch or supper or two, preferably something new, oddball, off-the-wall, inexpensive: tacos de los ojos? unusual chinese stuff (Shanghai)? Write you all later.

Thanks for the alert about the Milwaukee gathering--but I doubt I can make it, since it's still about 4 hours away from me and requires major planning. I think Milwaukee is a great food town for this area (although I don't know that I'd ever go there as a substitute for Chicago food). I do think that it's a better food town than Minneapolis/St. Paul, though--more street/ethnic stuff, but not as much as Chicago. I don't know if I'd go to Milwaukee for ribs or bbq--isn't there something more local, German or Polish or something? (There is Serbian: Three Brothers; also Mexican: Tres Hermanos (no comparison intended); also Peony for Dim Sum--great stuff, but I still think that you won't find much in these places that you can't find in Chicago.)
