On the streets of Los Angeles on any given day are over 4,000 mobile restaurants, or what the LA county department of health services calls Mobile Food Preparation Units (MFPU). MFPU's include any mobile food facility upon which food is prepared for service, sale, or distribution at retail. Registered in the county, these trucks as well as an estimated 2,000 illegal/unregistered mobile restaurants serve the LA region.

Somehow I find "taco truck" more appetizing...

    Erik,

Thank you for that link. It's been quite a few years since I've been to LA and I hope to get back some time in the near future -- if and when, I think a meal from a taco truck will be needed. Even if the tacos aren't the greatest (are any trucks in particularly renowned?), I like the idea.

But one question, do they announce their presence with music as ice-cream trucks do?… I hope not…

Anyway, I really enjoyed the photos.

I would arrange my schedule to be in Los Angeles at the same time, for sure.

I have not seen (heard?) that, but they very often have Mexican music playing while they are parked.

Some trucks create an entire tableau with picnic tables, stools, condiment bars, and festive lights.

Oh, here are your ice cream trucks, Antonius.

I really enjoyed the photos as well -- thanks for the pointer.

And thanks for the mp3s! I have often wondered just what it must do to a person's psyche to drive an ice cream truck and hear that music repeated for hours and days. But i'm thinking it will be amusing to have those come up in my shuffle play once in a while...
