With my limited national travel, I would start out a nice Al's Italian Beef on my way to one of Chicago's Airports where I would fly to New York to sample a Katz's Deli pastrami sandwich and a Lombardi's pizza. Then off to North Carolina for a tour of BBQ joints. Which would include the Skylight Inn and Lexington #1, at the least. Then New Orleans for a muffaletta at Central Grocery, a beignet, and a down home crawfish boil.
On to central Texas for a brisket tour which would include Coopers. I would fly on to Santa Fe to spend a few days sampling the culinary delights of the area. One side trip would include Danny Gaulden's Dairy Queen in Carlsbad. I would want to hit Seattle and Vancouver for seafood.
I am sure I would want to spend a week in each location. The named places are off the top of my head. With a little research I could plan a more detailed itinerary.
I did forget Los Angeles to visit Tommy's.
